Authentication only works with http://localhost

25 Aug 2013, 08:10

I've set up a .htaccess and .htpasswd on IIS 7.5. When I'm on that computer and go to http://localhost, all the authentication works great. When I visit the http://www.mysite.com remotely, it goes right into everything without prompting for a login and password. error.log is empty so I'm not sure what to check at this point. Does anyone have any ideas what's going on?

Hello,

It look like the issue is either with web site bindings or DNS settings but not with Ape.
Please check.

I am having the same problem.
I can only get it to request username and password when accessing as http://localhost.

I read the post and reply. In Checking bindings and DNS settings I find all is ok there.

I have tried using these methods of addressing;
http://localhost Result = requests username and passwrod
http://127.0.0.1 Passes throught to the web site without challenge
http://{my computer name} Passes throught to the web site without challenge
http://{my router assigned computer IP} Passes throught to the web site without challenge
I have also connected with a different - outside - connection going to the URL and I get the same result of it Passes throught to the web site without challenge

I think I have narrowed this down to a simply fact that .htaccess only works when accessing using local host.
No other way of accessing will cause the .htaccess to process requests.

THE PROBLEM WAS that I had not gone in and Enabled the free license. Once I found that and Enabled it all the problems I listed above whent away.
Everything seems to be working fine now.
