IIS Virtual Directory using UNC Path

10 Feb 2020, 18:08

Hello,

On our site, that is using Helicon Ape, we have a virtual directory that is mapped to another server's directory using UNC. We cannot edit the permissions on this other server's directory. When Helicon Ape is disabled, the viewing the files works fine. But when Helicon Ape is enabled, we get an error. We believe it is because the IIS application pool does not have permission to access the directory. When we set up the virtual directory, we did enter a "connect as" account, which is how we were able to view when Helicon Ape is disabled.

Is there a way around this, other than switching our application pool to run under an account that has the same name and password as the UNC directory? We did this as part of troubleshooting, and were able to serve up the files. But we prefer not to configure it this way because of the security risk, losing the isolation, between our sites on the server. We have more than one site using Helicon Ape, and we need to use the UNC path for some of the other sites too.

Any help in resolving this issue would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,
Marc

Hello,

Just want to follow up and see if there are any suggestions. Right now, we're going to move forward with running IIS under the local account with the same name as the UNC login. We don't prefer to do this, but it is what it is.

Is there anyway to exclude the virtual directories from being controlled by Helicon Ape?

Marc
