The mysterious number 7

10 Feb 2014, 08:57

We've installed a fresh new python template on Windows Server 2012.

We're using jMeter to measure the reponse time of our setup and are getting some weird results.

Without changing anything in the default application (it just displays the welcome page), we get the following results:

Making requests from 1 thread in jMeter: ~10ms response time (7x0 seconds)
Making requests from 2 threads in jMeter: ~7 seconds response time (7x1 seconds)
Making requests from 3 threads in jMeter: ~49 seconds response time (7x7 seconds)
Making requests from 4 threads in jMeter: ~84 seconds response time (7x12 seconds)

There seems to be a mysterious factor 7 involved when responding to requests.

The CPU on the machine is mostly idling while we're doing these tests.

Additional info: CherryPy is installed on the same machine, and it does not have any problem answering concurrent requests.

Obviously there must be something wrong with our setup. Is there anything we can do to try and pinpoint what goes wrong?

Regards,
Joakim

Hi,

The version of the HeliconZoo_xXX.dll files are 3.1.98.508

We're running this on a virtual machine with Windows Server 2012 Standard (64 bit OS and processor)

Edit: It uses a single core processor

Thanks,
Joakim
